How to prepare for a wax at a spa?

I want to get a Brazilian wax done, but what happens if the hair is too long? (I know recommended is a quarter inch). Will they still complete the service or send you home?
Usually I just DIYer, but my birthday is coming up and I want to see if it's really worth the extra money.
